A Community Festival for a Clean and Green Samui

The Event

September 21st was the United Nations International Day of Peace and organizations across the globe held fund and awareness-raising celebrations for the most essential issues of our times: environment, health and human rights. This is called the Global Mala Project.

The Aim

Concerned citizens on Koh Samui joined this global event to align ourselves with positive change and create a sense of community by building bridges between organizations and sharing information and resources.

The Focus

The idea was to use the mindfulness of yoga to focus on our ailing environment. By holding a green event we had the opportunity to teach by doing and to educate by having fun.

The Purpose

We also wanted to explore sustainable living on Samui. To look at ways we can use less, eat local, reuse, recycle and leave a smaller carbon footprint on our delicate island. The second purpose was to raise money to continue funding educational projects and to support and inspire Green Island Project initiatives.

สมาคมโรงแรมไทยภาคใต้ฝั่งตะวันออก,สมาคมส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวเกาะสมุย สมาคมสปาสมุย ร่วมกันเป็นเจ้าภาพสร้างกุศลผลักดันกิจกรรมเรื่องสิ่งแวดล้อมรวมถึงการนำมาสิ่งความรู้ให้กับเยาวชนให้ตระหนักและเข้าใจในเรื่องสิ่งแวดล้อม

รายได้จากการจำหน่ายบัตรเข้างาน หรือ จับรางวัล รวมถึงการขายอาหารและเครื่องในงานจะนำไปสนับสนุนในเรื่องของการดูแลและรักษาทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อมให้เป็นไปอย่างคุ้มค่าและเหมาะสม โดยจะเน้นในเรื่องโปรแกรมการศึกษาให้กับเยาวชนและการสนับสนุนโครงการ The Green Island เพื่อส่งเสริมจัดทำหนังสือให้ความรู้กับนักท่องเที่ยว รวมถึงสถานเด็กกำพร้าและเร่ร่อนอำเภอแม่สาย
